Materials we actually chose
The desk mats are 3 mm pressed wool-blend felt. It doesn’t curl at the corners, it takes a mouse fine, and it hides coffee rings better than leather does.
Anything wooden is North American black walnut, sanded to 220 and finished with a hard-wax oil. No veneer, no stain pretending to be walnut.
The cable tray is powder-coated steel, because plastic trays sag once you load them with a power strip.
